1955: PRINCE ALWALEED BIN TALAL BORN

March, 1955 — HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud is born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is the grandson of Saudi Arabia’s founder and first ruler, King Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, and the leader of Lebanese independence, Riad El-Solh.

1968: HRH ATTENDS MILITARY ACADEMY

HRH enrolls into the King Abdulaziz Military Academy

1974: HRH ENROLLS IN SHU’AYFAT SCHOOL

Prince Alwaleed successfully enrolls in Shu’ayfat school in Lebanon.

1974: HRH ENROLLS AT MENLO COLLEGE

Upon breakout of Lebanese civil war, Prince Alwaleed enrolls in Menlo College, Atherton, California to study business administration.

1976: MARRIAGE TO HRH PRINCESS DALAL

Prince Alwaleed marries Princess Dalal Al Sa’ud.

1978: BIRTH OF SON, HRH PRINCE KHALID

Prince Alwaleed celebrates the birth of his son, HRH Prince Khalid Bin Alwaleed Bin Talal in California.

1979: HRH AWARDED BACHELORS DEGREE

Prince Alwaleed graduates with a B.Sc. in Business Administration from Menlo College, California.

1980: HRH FOUNDS HIS OWN COMPANY

Prince Alwaleed founds Kingdom Establishment for Commerce and Trade, a consulting firm to assist international businesses working in Saudi Arabia. This entity later becomes Kingdom Holding Company.

1980: HRH STRIKES FIRST DEALS, INVESTS PROFITS

Shortly after founding Kingdom Establishment for Commerce and Trade, the Company wins its first major contracts with the profits from these ventures being invested in local banking and real estate.

1982: BIRTH OF DAUGHTER, HRH PRINCESS REEM

Prince Alwaleed celebrates the birth of his daughter HRH Princess Reem Bint Alwaleed Bin Talal.

1985: HRH AWARDED MASTERS DEGREE

Prince Alwaleed awarded Master of Social Science (with Honors) from Syracuse University, New York.

1987: HRH ESTABLISHES ROTANA ENTERTAINMENT

Prince Alwaleed establishes Rotana Entertainment, a pan-Arab media conglomerate that would grow rapidly to become the Arab world’s largest entertainment company operating a film production company, TV and radio channels, publishing interests, and a record label.

1988: PURCHASE OF SHARES IN UNITED SAUDI COMMERCIAL BANK

Prince Alwaleed purchases controlling shares in United Saudi Commercial Bank, increasing the bank’s market value.

1991: MAJOR INVESTMENT IN CITIGROUP

KHC invests in Citigroup with an investment of USD590 million.

1994: MAJOR INVESTMENT IN FAIRMONT AND FOUR SEASONS HOTELS

KHC acquires a 50% stake in Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and 22% of Four Seasons.

1994: INVESTMENT IN DISNEYLAND PARIS

KHC undertakes a 24% investment in Disneyland Paris for USD345 million.

1995: HRH VOTED BUSINESSMAN OF THE YEAR

Prince Alwaleed is voted Businessman of the Year in an opinion poll by Gulf News and DHL

1995: KHC INVESTS IN CANARY WHARF

KHC, recognizing the potential of Canary Wharf, London, UK, structures a privately negotiated investment.

1996: KINGDOM HOLDING COMPANY IS FORMED

Now an established global investment specialist, Kingdom Establishment for Commerce and Trade is renamed Kingdom Holding Company.

1997: HRH RECOGNIZED BY FORBES FOR FIRST TIME

Prince Alwaleed named Second Most Successful and Creative Investor in the Global Power Elite by Forbes magazine.

1997: HRH NAMED WORLD’S 13th WEALTHIEST MAN

Prince Alwaleed named the world’s 13th wealthiest individual by Forbes magazine.

1997: KHC NAMED AS ONE OF SAUDI ARABIA’S BIGGEST COMPANIES

KHC is listed third in Arab News and Al-Eqtisadiah’s list of “100 Top Saudi Arabian Companies.”

1998: HRH NAMED AMONG WORLD’S SMARTEST & WEALTHIEST BY FORBES

Prince Alwaleed named 2nd Smartest and 10th Wealthiest businessman in the world by Forbes magazine.

1998: KHC NAMED SAUDI ARABIA’S TOP COMPANY 1998

KHC is listed 1st in Arab News & Al-Eqtisadiah’s list of ‘100 Top Saudi Arabian Companies’.

1998: KHC BEGINS WORK ON MAJOR KINGDOM CITY DEVELOPMENT

KHC begins work on Kingdom City, an exclusive residential development in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

1999: KHC BEGINS WORK ON MAJOR KINGDOM CENTRE PROJECT

KHC begins work on Kingdom Centre, a landmark shopping, office, and residential skyscraper, which would become the tallest building in the Middle East upon its completion in 2002.

1999: KHC BEGINS WORK MAJOR KINGDOM HOSPITAL DEVELOPMENT

KHC begins work on Kingdom Hospital, a major healthcare project preceding the acquisition of a leading Riyadh-based consulting clinic.

2002: HRH RECEIVES ITP LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Prince Alwaleed is presented with an ITP Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his prowess as an investor, attempts to alleviate poverty and foster improved relations between the Islamic world and the West.

2002: HRH DONATES TO GEORGE BUSH SCHOLARSHIP

Prince Alwaleed donates USD 500,000 to help fund the George Herbert Walker Bush Scholarship at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.

2006: HRH DONATES 5000 COMPUTERS TO TUNISIA

Prince Alwaleed donates 5000 personal computers to the Computer Philanthropic Program in Tunisia to assist families in certain areas.

2007: KHC BEGINS TRADING ON SAUDI STOCK EXCHANGE

KHC begins trading on the Saudi Tadawul. The initial public offering closed on 18th July 2007, raising over SR 8.5bn for 5% of the company. HRH retains 95% ownership.

2007: HRH NAMED WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL ARAB

Prince Alwaleed is named the world’s Most Powerful Arab in a list of 100 individuals by Arabian Business magazine.

Prince Alwaleed signs the contract for the construction of the Kingdom Tower, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which will exceed a height of over 1,000 meters.  

2011: HRH ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF THE AL ARAB NEWS CHANNEL

Prince Alwaleed announces the launch of an Arabic language business news channel, entitled Al Arab, scheduled to be launched in 2012.

2011: KHC INVESTS USD300 MILLION IN TWITTER

KHC makes a significant investment in social media giant, Twitter. Prince Alwaleed commented: “Our investment in Twitter reaffirms our ability in identifying suitable opportunities to invest in promising, high-growth businesses with a global impact.”  

2012: The Wall Street Journal publishes “The Lesson of the Arab Spring”
